Here's What's Up

Last Monday, I interviewed for a position working for the town of Frederick. The position, unfortunately, went to someone with that specific work and software program experience, but would have doubled my salary. (Besides, it would have put me 30 miles closer to Denver.) I would have taken the job if it were offered to me, but I am already into my second week of training at my current job, and I don't hate it.

Tuesday I made and brought brownies and key lime bars for my training class. They went fast; I may need to make them more frequently. (Yay for a reason to bake!)

Bailey and my mom both have ear infections. The latter jokingly blames the former. The infections are both on the right side, too. Ha.

I want to try to initiate a recycling program at work. There is a soda machine and a bunch of styrofoam cups by the coffee machine...I think I'll look into it. (With the amount of caffeine the people at work drink, the recycling bins would need dumped every day or two, if not every shift. Holy cow.)

My honey came to see me last weekend! I was so happy to see him. :) Bailey was, too; she was happy to learn that her daddy knows how to throw the Frisbee just as well as her mama does.  I loved falling asleep on his shoulder again. His birthday is coming up; I need to get on the ball for a gift for him. (I have some ideas, but I need to double check with peoples in his family and see what they're doing.)

I went to the doctor to get my test results back from my physical.
My TSH levels (thyroid stimulating hormone) were 46 times (!) the high end of the normal limit. The doctor said that she had only seen numbers that high once or twice before. Hu...zzah?
She also checked my blood glucose and A1C levels, because they indicated the week before (during the physical) that I may be diabetic. The tests in the office on Thursday did not subvert that indication. That means, when I go back in six weeks to recheck my thyroid levels (to see where the minor prescribed 50mcg dose of levothyroxine has taken me), she will also recheck my glucose and A1C levels --simple things they are, results come within minutes-- and if there are still indications that I am diabetic, she will start me on a diabetic medication.

Since signs indicate that my type of diabetes (if I do, in fact, have it) would be Type 2, I can probably affect the disease with diet and exercise. (Which, duh, are two things I need to start monitoring anyway.)

There is also a chance that my extremely-elevated TSH levels are throwing off the accuracy of the glucose and other blood tests, so it may be one medication instead of multiple. We'll see.

The doc also put me back on simvastatin, lisinopril, and fish oil, since my cholesterol levels were a bit wonky. My blood pressure was not THAT elevated, really --only marginally off-- so the lisinopril I am not sure I agree with, but whatev. I'll take it. (Again, I'm not surprised by her ordering these meds. I have been on those medications before, and only stopped taking them when my thyroid levels showed a plateau and the doctor did not see a reason to renew the prescrips because the other numbers were coming back in line, too.) I am also not surprised about the cholesterol levels being off because, well, I am obese. Not gonna lie. There was also a slight off-kilter reading in one of the kidney areas, and the doc isn't sure what that's about. Because the thyroid affects so much stuff, that could be what it is.

Quickly, in other news, my family and I are almost done with the chicken coop. Mmm, fresh eggs soon!
We went to the Farmer's Market in Greeley today and loaded up on tomatoes, cukes the size of zukes, potatoes, and huge peaches! (I'll share a photo tomorrow.)
...and I need to go through with my pie experiment. I hope there's a chilly day coming up so I can heat up the house!

What is it with expectations in this society? As a student of anthropology, I am convinced it's a part of our culture. That being s...
