Salvation

I took my grandma to a funeral today for a member of our extended family.
It was at the same church that hosted my aunt's funeral, nearly a year ago.

My parents used to attend there regularly, but left to explore a few other churches that had been recommended to them.
...and then they stopped going altogether.

I never really attended there on a regular basis: I had a home church in town, same denomination and everything.  I went maybe a handful of times, and while the congregants and pastoral staff were welcoming, I just didn't feel like it was home to me.

So today, while dropping the potato salad off at the kitchen for the post-memorial meal, the pastor came up to my grandma to greet her, and then looked at me --knowing who I was-- and said, "What's your name?"

I said, "Seriously?"

He then lumped me into a group of CEO Congregants, meaning those who attend Christmas & Easter Only before walking away.

All during his execution of the memorial service, he introduced me to more reasons why I do not attend his church.
1: He assumes that unless people attend services regularly, they are not Saved. (Who are you to judge? Didn't Jesus say not to do that, unless we risk being judged ourselves?)
2: He devotes an unusually large amount of time during memorial services to trying to Save those in the sanctuary. (Dude, I came here to celebrate the life of my family member / friend, I will not respond well to this kind of continuing assumption that I am not saved, and have gotten annoyed at both memorials of this style at which I have been present.)
3: His church sponsored a petition to rebut the pending Civil Unions bill. (Jesus did not say, Love everyone...except the homosexuals. He said to love everyone as He did...and He spent time with social outcasts. This also feeds into the judging part. Let the homosexuals have their civil unions; if their 'chosen, sinful lifestyle' is so anti-God, shouldn't the judging, damning, and condemning be left up to Him?)
4: He assumed that he knows a thing or two about my Salvation status. (I find its better to assume that people are Saved until you know they're not. And doesn't this fit into the judging part of my argument from earlier?)

See, that's the reason I don't attend church regularly, anywhere.
I have not found one that shares my values.

I promise to keep staying true to what it is that I believe over the next year.
