Here I am, preparing for my second week of work.
Yes, I survived my first week. There was lots of coffee, a Red Bull, and a few Chai lattes involved, but I survived my 5:30 AM wake-ups, my 50-minute commutes each morning (and then back each night), and the initial getting-used-to-everything stuff.
I checked some people in for their appointments, sorted mail, scheduled some appointments over the phone, made labels for mailboxes and phones, and got a daily flip calendar for my desk to keep track of everything. I still have a long way to go, but I think I'm making progress.
I have my own phone line, my own hanging door sign, my own set of keys, my own file cabinet...and looking through the office supply catalog to choose my own (!) calendar felt like Christmas. Yes, office supplies make me ridiculously giddy. (Nearly as much as a crafts-supply catalog. Nearly.)
My second day there, I attended a luncheon to say farewell to the post-Doctorate Fellows and the interns that we had working at the center. Their replacements start the 1st -- hence the mailbox labels.
Wednesday brings my campus-wide orientation meeting.
Bring it on. I have coffee.
